Perinatal Mental Health
❋
What is Perinatal Mental Health (PMH)?
“Perinatal” refers to the pregnancy and postpartum periods. The mental health needs of women and birthing people in this timeframe often require specialized support and a holistic approach.
❋ Perinatal/Postpartum Depression & AnxietyPerinatal depression and anxiety affect 1 in 5 families. Depression often looks like feeling irritable, guilty, ashamed, and sad or numb. Anxiety may feel like panic, obsessive thoughts, feeling on edge, or unmanageable fear about your baby. This may impact your relationships, sleep and appetite, work, and family responsibilities. Perinatal depression and anxiety are the most common childbirth complication, but they are treatable.
Why work with a Perinatal Mental Health Specialist?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period come with many changes that impact biology, mind & emotions, relationships, and roles. You deserve a provider who understands these changes and their implications for your wellbeing. I have specialty training through Postpartum Support International and a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) that equip me to provide competent, evidence-based care for birthing people navigating mental health and relational challenges during this unique period. I support my perinatal clients with many things, including navigating complex OB/GYN care and postpartum planning, treating depression and anxiety, and staying connected to oneself through the major role transitions that accompany having a baby or becoming a parent. Therapy with me is a safe and supportive space to be heard and witnessed through this sacred and often challenging journey. I provide affirming care for birthing people of all genders and have experience supporting individuals navigating substance use treatment and eating disorder recovery during pregnancy.
